Naked heat is the newest palette in the naked family, and it’s quite unlike its predecessors. The colors are all toasty and warm, like orange browns, coppers, reddish browns and the like.

That’s third day hair on my head, BTW, and Vice Lipstick in Scorched on my lips…
If you happen to love shades like MAC Saddle and Soft Brown, or MAC Coppering Eye Shadow, or MAC Costa Riche Eye Pencil, naked heat is the palette for you.

MATTES!
Seeing as it’s urban Decay, you know the deal. The 12 eyeshadows are fantastically easy to blend, but you will have to contend with some fallout. It’s only a little in this case, though, and the powders seem to adhere better to my skin than the powders in the previous naked palettes (don’t know why).

I notice very little fallout when I use the mattes. (OMG! There are seven of them. seven MATTES! Which is, like, YAY!) but I notice a little a lot more with the shimmers.

The powders don’t feel dry or dusty, and I also like that they (particularly the mattes) feel smooth and silky. Shoot, even the shimmers are smooth. No grit or chunkiness or potential glitter bombs.

Interestingly, over the past few years, my eyes have grown a lot more sensitive. My left eye, especially, waters up when I wear the old-school naked and Naked2 palettes (but not so much with Naked3 or naked Smoky). but I haven’t experienced any sensitivity when I’ve worn naked heat so far (knock on wood).

And I also haven’t had any issues with sensitivity when I’ve worn the two new 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils (which are $20 each) that are also launching with the palette. There’s a striking, exceptionally smooth dark purple one called Alkaline that I thought was a lip liner at first, but no, it’s a liner (FYI, I’m going through a purple liner phase ideal now). Anyway, it looks extraordinary with the warm reds, browns and coppers in naked Heat.

The other liner, Torch, is a reddish orange, and it terrifies the crap outta me… I think it might nearly be too red, because when I wear it, something doesn’t look right… I look like I’ve been either crying or was just bitten by a flesh-eating monster.

It might be worth a try, though, if you have blue eyes, considering that reddish orange colors like Torch always seem to go well with blue eye colors.

Of the three LE lipsticks that are also launching with the palette, two of them are metallics and one is a cream. The metallics are opaque and a little drying, whereas the cream ROCKS. It’s a best warm nude beige.

I really like the naked heat palette, but it’s awfully trendy ideal now. Those warm orange and red shades are having a moment (they’ve been anywhere on Instagram lately), but I wonder how well the trend will hold up… Not that it matters now, but I have a feeling it might look a little dated in 10 years, because it’s such a certain look.

I say choose it if you like warm shades and being on the cutting edge, but I don’t plan to wear these shades to big events with lots of cameras, like proms, graduations, engagement parties and weddings. Eu não sei…

Most of the items in the 10-piece collection are re-promotes, like Russian Red Lipstick ($17, a MAC classic!), Fleur Power blush ($23 and SO PIGMENTED), Rapidblack Penultimate eyeliner ($21, and not my fave; the idea feels too stiff).

The Eye shadow palette X 9/Year of the Rooster ($32) has some of my all-time favorites, including Wedge, Honey Lust, Shale and Mulch.

It doesn’t take anything away from how good they are, but if you’re a MAC die-hard fan, there’s a good chance you’ve seen these colors before. You may even have them in your collection already.

My favorite piece in the release is the $17 Peach blossom Cremesheen. I don’t know if it’s L.E. or permanent, but it’s dang cool… Actually, cool-toned. It’s a moisturizing, medium coverage, incredibly silky, cool-toned peachy nude in MAC’s shiny, slippery Cremesheen formula, and — hallelujah! — the peach color is dark enough to see on my lips. If a lot of nude lip colors wash you out, or you just feel like they look odd on your lips, give this one a try.

Eh, I wish everything here was exciting me as much as the boxes. There are some great colors here and old standby pieces that I really like, but a lot of of them already live in the permanent line.

Also…yup, the palette shadows don’t appear to do as well as MAC’s regular individual singles. At least I don’t think so. I’m wearing the new Year Wedge, Shale and Mulch in these pics, and I’ve worn those bad kids lots of times over the years, but I really had to pack these on. I even had to wet my brush to ramp up the intensity, which I don’t ever feel like I have to do when I use the regular full-size versions.

I love the idea of a Chinese new Year collection, and I think the boxes are beautiful, but with the exception of Peach blossom Lipstick (which I LOVE), this release is a bit underwhelming for me. You can get hold of a lot of of these pieces in the permanent line anyway.

Streamlined Skin care on Vacay

I know this was supposed to be my “Summer of Skin Care,” but all last week it was more like “The summer vacation of minimal Skin Care,” haha!

SO different than our last trip to check out family in Hawaii. I took all of my favorite skin care products at the time and put them into these tiny sample jars I got from Nordstrom. then I meticulously labeled each jar and kept up with my regular multi-step skin care regimen the entire trip.

Skin care-wise, this time I only brought makeup removal wipes (which I ended up not really using because I wore so little makeup), face wash, sunscreen and moisturizer, and I took my chances that if I were to get a bad pimple or something, I would either deal with it when I got home, or I’d pick up something from a drugstore. I also temporarily stopped following my anti-aging routine.

It was weirdly liberating to not have all of those little jars with me because I always bring them on trips, but after a week without my skin care bells and whistles, the sky wasn’t falling! Clearly, this concept of traveling light has been BLOWING MY FREAKING MIND, as you can tell.

Tula Purifying Facial Cleanser

Skin care brand Tula puts probiotics (like the good bacteria in your tummy!) in all of their products, and I really liked using and having their Purifying Facial Cleanser with me…although I have no idea if the probiotics have anything to do with how well it works. It smells a little like cucumbers and kept my skin clean and clear without stripping it.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Overnight renewal Cream

This is super thick, rich and a little on the heavy side for humid Hawaii, but it kept my skin hydrated when I started wearing it overnight and the air conditioner was running, which had been drying out my skin early on the trip.

Neutrogena Pure & free baby Sunscreen

Initially got this for the Coywolf and used it on her, but El Hub and I liked it so much that we also used it on ourselves. It’s a thick, gentle mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide, and it takes a while to rub in, but I didn’t mind at all because it felt like it was really really protecting my skin, and it was the most waterproof sunscreen we had. way better than Coppertone Water Babies.

Malie hotel toiletries

I’m usually pretty picky about hotel toiletries, but I was all about the Malie products at Ko’Olina. They were totally on point.

Malie is a local luxury organic brand from Kauai, and they add organic aloe to their products. I used their Mango Nectar Shampoo, Conditioner, Body cream and Luxe Creme Soap and loved them all.

They smelled like fresh mango and made my skin and hair soft and wonderfully moisturized. Plus, the products didn’t feel heavy or sticky at all.

My inner Filipino grandma wanted to hoard the bottles and bring a bunch of them home from the trip, but since they were liquid, they had to go in my designated Ziploc liquids bag, which was already stuffed, so yadda, yadda, yadda… I didn’t bring any of them home.
